The Global Reporting Initiative

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is an international organization that provides a standardized framework for sustainability reporting. Its main goal is to help organizations disclose their ESG impacts transparently and consistently.

Voluntary Reporting

Many organizations choose to use GRI standards voluntarily to enhance transparency, improve stakeholder trust, and align with global best practices in sustainability reporting. In certain industries and sectors, adopting GRI standards is encouraged or expected as part of industry norms or best practices.

Mandatory Reporting

In many regions, sustainability or non-financial reporting is required. While GRI Standards are a widely recognized global framework for sustainability reporting, they are not sufficient on their own to meet the requirements of the EU's CSRD. However, companies can use GRI Standards to supplement their CSRD reporting by providing additional insights and aligning with broader global sustainability goals.

How to use the GRI Standards for your ESG and sustainability reporting program
