Double materiality assessments (DMA) are experiencing rapid adoption and are becoming standard practice around the world. Organizations that have already conducted a DMA as part of their CSRD/ESRS reporting, or utilized a hybrid GRI-ISSB approach, understand the significant initial effort and complexity involved. The inaugural DMA is often an extensive project, frequently necessitating external advisory support. Following materiality determination, organizations typically accumulate a substantial volume of data and procedural information in spreadsheets. The accumulated data and documentation are intended for future reference, yet their utilization may be uncertain.

In contemplating the DMA for the subsequent year, several critical inquiries arise:

  • What should be the methodology for conducting the DMA in the second year?
  • Is it necessary to repeat the entire process from the beginning?
  • How can the accumulated data and documentation from the initial year be leveraged effectively?
  • What constitutes best practice for a DMA in the second year?
  • How can subsequent DMAs be streamlined without diminishing comprehensiveness and compliance?

This webinar is designed for sustainability professionals who are considering these questions. It will address these challenges and propose a streamlined and optimized methodology for the double materiality process in the years following the baseline DMA. The webinar will identify the key questions for annual review to ascertain which areas of the DMA require further attention. Furthermore, it will explore how technology and AI support can facilitate the identification of areas for improvement and enhance the overall quality of the DMA.
